Ghosts 2 will be the latest Call of Duty game this 2016? Is this confirmed?

The Call of Duty franchise features a long list of games that get released annually. The most recent game in the franchise is Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and it’s one of the best games in the series yet. Recent rumors point out that the next game may be the sequel  to the critically acclaimed Call of Duty: Ghosts.

The popular topic among Call of Duty fans as of late is a leaked image from an upcoming magazine entry that shows off what could possibly be Call of Duty: Ghosts 2, which may be the Call of Duty game this year, Gamingbolt reports. People who saw the image on Twitter (or see the image below) instantly believed it to be true as it is in a published article. However, what people didn’t consider was that the article was an opinion piece, so the image isn’t from the developers.

At the top left of the picture are the words “2016 most wanted.” The picture accompanying the entry for the alleged Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 was in fact a screenshot from the original game. The article is about the most sought-after games for this year, and since Call of Duty: Ghosts was a good entry in the franchise, fans are most probably looking forward to its sequel. The new Black Ops was an anticipated game and it’s currently one of the most successful Call of Duty titles to date.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 may not happen at all. It’s unlikely that the Call of Duty 2016 game will be another Black Ops or Advanced Warfare title as they were recently released already. Ghosts was released back in 2013, so it’s highly likely that developer Infinity Ward may be looking for a follow-up, so fans shouldn’t dismiss the idea of a sequel too soon. The publisher could also opt to release a new title like they did back in 2014 and 2013.
